How do I unlock a Word file?

Upload the .docx. If it only blocks editing (Restrict Editing), leave the password blank — the restriction is removed instantly. If it needs a password to open, type that password to decrypt it.

Can it crack a password I don't know?

No. Editing restrictions are removed without a password, but a file encrypted with an open-password requires you to enter the correct password. It does not guess or brute-force.

Is my file kept?
